I have a passion for people, communication and learning. After graduating from Stellenbosch University, I started as a graduate and assistant resident engineer in the Roads Department of an international consultancy firm. In 2021, I completed my PhD in Pavement Engineering and accepted a position as a Lecturer in Civil Engineering. My research focuses on the ageing and rheology of chip seal binders, as well as the application of numerical analysis and machine learning application to pavement engineering datasets. I have used this knowledge to branch out into the field of alternative binders – with a specific focus on recycled rubber crumbs and lignin as bitumen modifiers or extenders.
